Emily did not turn around to watch Devon's limousine drive away. She walked up to the front doors of the bank, hesitated for a moment to catch her breath and walked inside. Soon as she crossed the threashold, her mood changed. She was excited, slightly nervous and filled with anticipation. Emily looked around the lobby of the bank and admired the marble floor, clean and shiny brass hardware on the doors and the warm glowing lamps. Everything about this bank made her mood feel so different than just a few moments before.

"It's time to get moving." Emily thought.
She walked up to one of the desks and asked the person seated there whom she should see.
"Just over there miss. I'm sure they're waiting on you. Good luck." said the gentleman at the desk. He gave her an encouraging, professional smile.
"Why thank you." Emily replied and then walked over to announce herself.
Soon Emily was directed inside past the lobby and past a marble petition where she found the escalator. She was accompanied by a bank employee. She was dressed in a light gray suit, her blonde hair was whisked up in a french twist and Emily admired the pearl stud earrings she was wearing. "We'll be going to the third floor. Just follow me, Miss Burrows." Emily smiled at her in acknowlegement.
They reached their destination after walking past many cubicles with people busy on phones. The room was a buzz with conversations.
"A Miss Emily Burrows is here for her interview, Mr. Bryant." said the young lady.
Emily found herself standing up a bit straighter than ever seeing the man seated in the leather desk chair behind a huge desk. Surrounding him was a nicely appointed office.
"Thank you, Caroline. Let Mrs. Reed know Miss Burrows is with me now. Tell her to hold my calls during this interview, please." said Mr. Bryant.
"Yes sir. Good luck, Emily." said Caroline to Emily with a warm smile.
"Thank you." Emily said and she smiled back.
Emily walked in to the office and Caroline then walked out, slowly closing the office door so it would not make a noise. The room went quiet.
"Good morning. Please have a seat Miss Burrows." asked Mr. Bryant.
"Thank you." Emily took the first chair that was in front of Mr. Bryant's large desk.
"Let's get started, shall we?" said Mr. Bryant and gave her a professional but warm smile.

Emily really felt uncomfortable. She really did have to get on with her day and she hoped that Devon's limosine driver would not drive too slowly. She wanted to get to her destination and away from Devon Frampton as quickly as possible. They way he looked at her made her skin crawl. She wished Daniel would suddenly show up on the pavement and rescue her but, she knew that would not happen as he was in the studios filming all day. Emily decided to take a deep breath, be civil and hold her own.

"I wish you good luck in your search for employement today. I'm glad I can be of some assistance." said Devon in his proper tone. It made Emily feel annoyed.
"Thank you, Devon." Emily replied to be courteus.
"Here we are, I shall open the door for you." Devon opened the limousine door and Emily slid in the vehicle. Devon of course slid in next to her. He was close but, did keep some distance and then had to move over to utilize the seatbelt. Emily was glad for it.
"Where shall we go?" Devon asked. Emily realizing she never told him, opened her purse and produced several sheets of paper all with differnt job leads. And here on the top was something she hoped for. She hadn't noticed it before as she was so excited to be with her new friends. It was a job offer at the bank downtown. Just what she had in mind.
"Um, the first one I'd like to try is Bank of London. That looks good." Emily said and then read to Devon's driver the address.
"Mind if I have a look?" Devon asked, holding out his hand.
Emily hesitated for a second then handed Devon the papers. She let out an inaudible sigh.
"Very good. Oh yes, quite suited for a young lady as you." Devon said and then going to the next paper, his pale blue eyes scanning across the writing. Emily turned her head when she was sure the limousine driver was not looking in his rear view mirror, she looked out her window and rolled her eyes.
"We'll be off then, Richard." and Devon then prompltly handed Emily back her papers. She quickly put them away in her large purse. She did now know what to say and really was in no mood for conversing with Mr. Frampton at all.
"I'm sure you'll do well in the interview." Devon said and as the limousine started to negotiate it's way in to traffic, Devon signaled to the driver.
Emily watched as the privacy screen rolled up and blocking the driver's view of the backseat.
"Here we go." thought Emily.

"I must tell you Emily, when I saw you walking along the pavement this morning you looked very lovely." Devon started and slowly turned his gaze towards her. Emily swallowed hard.
"Um, thank you." Emily managed to speak.
"I was hoping later I might spot you and ask you out for tea. I was so delighted to see you in my own establishment enjoying lunch today. You are captivating." Devon now turning up the charm. But, Emily was not charmed.
"Well, your chef prepares an excellent fish and chips. I just had to return." Emily said hoping to divert the conversation away from her and pehaps this form of flattery would make Devon talk about his business.
"Really. Well, thank you. You know, if none of these jobs lead you to something, I can always use someone in the office here. And to be able to work with someone as bright and beautiful as you would be a daily delight." Devon said and he was about to slide his hand over to her from his lap but, hesitated and then in a clever move, made it look as if he needed to brush a hair off his forehead instead. But, Emily caught the move already. She could sense Devon was interested in her and it was for more than employment. She really was feeling quite nervous.
"Thank you but, I am going to really sell myself at this bank interview today. I intend on getting this job." Emily said with confidence.
"My, I like your attitude. Are all American women brought up to have that hutzpah about them?" asked Devon with a gleam in his eye.
"Well, I would not define my confidence as a form of hutzpah. Doesn't that mean I am rude and pushy?" Emily said now feeling insulted.
"Oh dear, I didn't mean it like that. I like that you have this drive about you. It's rather attractive, if you don't mind me saying so." Devon said in a softer tone and as she looked in to his eyes could see the desire starting to flare there. She felt sick to her stomach.
"I guess you can if you want to. I feel everyone should have some ideas of what they want to do and when they figure it out,it's up to them to go after it. I have some important plans right now. I mustn't let anything distract me from them now. I am very focused." Emily said and hoped that this would give him the message to back off as he does not stand a chance. She also felt good because it was true. Nothing was going to stop her from getting this job. She needed it for what she had in mind next.

"Good show. Well, I do hope we can keep in touch. I'd like to be friends, you know?" Devon then tried a softer approach. But, he could feel his heart beating and his mind was thinking quite the oposite of being just friends.
"Perhaps." Emily did not want to get in to it.
"Well, it appears we've arrived at your destination. Should I have the driver wait for you so we can take you to your next appointment, Emily?" Devon asked.
"I don't think that is necessary. I would like to walk home once I'm done here. But, thank you all the same." Emily said politely and hoped he would not insist.
"Very well then. Shall I meet you again? Perhaps over drinks we can talk about how all this worked for you?" Devon tried again.
"I am sure I'll be very busy once they hire me, Devon. We'll see." Emily said.
"I'm happy for you." Devon then rapped on the glass pannel and it then slid open again.
"We're go to go back once Miss Burrows goes in for her interview. She's decided to walk home today." Devon told his driver and then the driver opened his door and opened the door for Mr. Frampton to exit.
Devon offered his hand to Emily as she came to the open door and Emily did not take it. She stood up on her own, smoothed out her skirt and then gave the driver a sweet thank you and then turned to Devon.
"Thank you. It was thoughtful of you." Emily said.
"My pleasure. I'm glad I got to meet you finally. You impress me." Devon said.
"Thank you again, I must be going." Emily said and with that she did not hesitate, she made her way to the bank's large front doors. She was never so glad to leave another person's company.

Emily went on to tell about how Daniel had found her on a day where her mood was beyond annoyed. Emily decided as she went on to describe the event, she would not disclose his full name. She figured that Daniel was very famous and did not want to cause that much of a stir. Besides, she did not see Daniel as a film star, she saw him as a friend.

"So, that's the story. You've met someone and he bumped in to you!" Charlie said.
"Sounds like he's a clumsey clot." Jaimie said as he began to feel a touch of jealousy but, then he quickly decided he should be happy for his new friend. Jaimie had entertained the idea that perhaps this lovely American girl could take a fancy in him. Jaimie was a good man and after seeing the glow of delight in Emily's eyes, just could not spoil it. He was no Devon Frampton.
"He may be clumsey but,he sure is sweet. I can certainly over look it." Emily said with a grin.
"Well, I'm glad for you. You'll have to bring him around." Charlie said.
"I will. We're still getting to know one another but, something about him. I have this...connection." Emily said and Jaimie smiled back at her approvingly.
"See, things are starting to work out for you here in England. I guess you'll be staying then, eh?" Jaimie said and then finished the last of his sandwich and drink.
"Yes, it seems so. As long as things work out as I have so far planned. Oh my!" Emily said after noticing the time on the wall clock.
"Whot? It's not Devon again is it?" exclaimed Charlie looking around.
"No, I've just realized the time. I have a few of these job leads to go to. I told the interviewer I'd go to at least two of them. I better get going." Emily said and she then got her bag to pay for her meal.
"Emily, put your money away, love. I want to pay for this one. Congratulations." Jaimie said.
"I'll pay half then." Charlie offered.
"Right then. We bought you lunch." Jaimie said and gave a nod of agreement to Charlie.
"You guys, thank you so much!" Emily said.
"Hey, if you need a ride I can take you." Charlie offered.
"No, it will be fine. A good walk will do me good." Emily said.
"Come on, I'll drive you. My car is parked down the way. I am now on my lunch break." Charlie said and grinned at Jaimie.
"Okay then." Emily replied.
Just then Devon Frampton came walking up behind them.

"Oh Charles. It seems we are out of rolls. Would you mind before you take your lunch break to please drive to the bakery and pick up about six dozen of them. I've had Tabitha call ahead and the rolls will be baked and ready by the time you get there." Devon said.
"Uh, sure." Charlie did not want to disclose that he had planned on driving Emily downtown.
Devon looked at Emily.
"Enjoy your lunch today?" Devon asked.
"Yes it was quite good. Thank you." Emily replied.
"Well, since I overheard the conversation here, my offer stands. Except now it won't be just a leisurely drive in a limousine it will be for business purposes." Devon said looking at Emily. She noticed Devon did not merely request if she wanted to go but, insisted she go.
"Um really, it's fine." Emily then broke.
"I insist. Really I do." Devon said.
Emily just stood there and this time she could not come up with a retort.
"It's settled then. This way then, it will be a pleasure. I do hope you find a good job." Devon said and waited till Emily stood up from her seat. He then turned to Charlie.
"Mr. Webster, shouldn't you be getting on the road. The rolls will be ready." Devon said giving Charlie a stern look.
"Yes sir." Charlie then briefly looked at Jaimie then Emily and made his way to the door.
Jaimie could not think of anything to get Emily out of getting in to Devon's limousine.

Jaimie Barton and Charlie Webster felt that Emily Burrows made their day. Not only could she use words in a most fluid and clever fashion but, she figured out Devon Frampton for the scoundrel and womanizer that he was. Both young men looked at Emily in a new light.
"We were going to warn you, honest!" Charlie then exclaimed.
"Tell me, what were you going to warn me about." Emily asked, figuring it was about Devon's personality.
"Devon Frampton. He fancies himself as quite the ladies man. And he always gravitates towards the beautiful women who frequent this pub. But, once he gets them, he has this terrible way of just dropping them by the wayside to get to his next conquest. He's very low." Charlie then explained.
"But our American friend figured him out! She's brilliant, I tell you!" Jaimie went on praising Emily.
Emily gave Jaimie a sweet, friendly grin. "I must confess, I had a brief encounter of the chilly kind earlier this morning." Emily said and grinned.
"Really, go on." Charlie then looked both ways and slid in to the booth next to Jaimie to listen.
"I was telling Jaimie that this morning I went the employment agency. As I was waiting at the corner for the light to change, Devon came up next to me. He tried to flirt with me as we waited to go with the group there at the crosswalk. Something in those eyes, he just made me feel so uncomfortable." Emily told them.
"Uncomfortable isn't the best of it, love." Charlie added.
"I thought he was going to follow me but, it seems he walked towards the pub then. I didn't think anything more of it till just a few minutes ago." Emily said.
"Well, now you know." Jaimie said.
"And love, fair warning. He won't give up. He likes you. Don't think he's had an American girl before." Charlie warned.
"Well, he's a bit late if he's interested in me. I was just about to tell Jaimie about my new friend." Emily said and then let her eyes go to Jaimie and then back to Charlie. She had a very attractive look upon her face.
"You've found someone!" Charlie said, leaning forward more and looking pleased.
"More like he found me. And let me tell you both, it's like something out of a story. You won't believe it. I will have to see about bringing him around to meet you both." Emily said.
"Well go on, don't keep me in suspenders any longer, eh?" Jaimie asked.
Emily giggled at Jaimie's suspenders joke, then hesitated for a touch of drama, took in a breath and began to tell the story.

Jaimie decided that Charlie Webster would have things in control now and keep Devon at bay. He gave the room one more glance and did not see either Charlie or Devon so brought his gaze back to his lovely American friend, Emily.
"Right. So, how was your morning?" Jaimie Barton asked.
"I went to the employment agency today." Emily then gave Jaimie a pleased grin.
"You did, did you? Good for you, love!" Jaimie replied.
"Of course I'm not sure what I'll be getting in to but, it will be nice to have a job." Emily said and then she picked up her sandwich.
"Well, I wish you all the best." Jaimie replied and he followed suit with his own lunch.
"Emily, how are you doing now?" Jaimie then asked after his first bite of his sandwich.
"Fine. I do like it here in England. I've been lucky as the weather has been so beautiful. That gives me the chance to get to know my surroundings here. And I'm so glad because I came to this pub and met you. You are my first friend here in the UK, Jaimie." Emily said and gave him an affectionate grin.
"Emily, I'm glad I met you as well, love." Jaimie said and he could just feel inside that she was sincere and he was glad for it.
They went on talking about their week and then Emily decided to mention to Jaimie of her second English friend.

"You've been busy then. What else have you been up to besides checking out the town then?" Jaimie asked.
"Well...Jaimie I have a second friend now." Emily then took a sip of her drink and waited for Jaimie's reaction.
"Really?" Jaimie then looked up and in his mind he thought she might have meant a friend of the female persuasion.
"I met someone who has swept me off my feet. And I can truly say, swept me off my feet." Emily said and gave a brilliant and giddy grin.
Jaimie's eyes grew wider and he did not say a word.
"Oh Jaimie, it's like I'm in a dream world. Truly! I am just so happy and I can't tell you how much because I can not put it in to words." Emily said and she was beaming across the table with a unmistakable glow of being in love.
Jaimie still did not respond verbally but then his eyes were not looking right at her.
"Jaimie, did you hear me, friend?" Emily asked now seeing he was not looking at her but, then she noticed the expression on his face.
"Cor crikey, ." Jaimie muttered under his breath.
"What is it?" Emily wondered what was wrong.
"Emily, I must make this quick...oh bugger!" Jaimie said to Emily in a low voice but, then Emily leaned to her right and turned her head to see in the direction that Jaimie had been looking.

Emily then saw the man she had met in the crosswalk. The one who was very polite but, in a sinister way. Emily felt the hairs on her neck suddenly raise up.
Devon Frampton seemed to glide across the floor in a masculine, confident, haughty manner. His eyes fixed upon Emily and then this grin suddenly came upon his face in a flicker. In Devon's cold blue eyes was a look of lust and over confidence that made Emily then feel dislike towards this person.
"Well hello. I hate to use a cliche' ah we meet again." Devon said not taking his steady, heated gaze off of Emily. He rudely fixed his eyes on her's. Emily blinked her eyes rapidly a few times then averted her eyes to look over at Jaimie. The expression on Jaimie's face was a sophisticated blend of coolness with undertones of dislike. Emily read it perfectly to understand Jaimie knew who this man was and also did not like him but, needed to calm himself. Emily then let her gaze return back to Devon but this time, her expression was just as cool as Jaimie's.
"Why yes, it appears we have met again. Were you following me today?" Emily dared to ask.
Devon gave a chuckle. "Oh no, I was not following you, my dear. I own this restaurant . You happen to be dining with one of my employees. Isn't that correct, Mr. Barton?" Devon said and then let his eyes leave Emily to then gaze at Jaimie.
"Yes." Jaimie simply replied. Jaimie was thinking to himself that he would be sure to inform Emily of this scoundrel's ways as soon as possible. He regretted not telling her sooner.
"Well, I do trust you are on your lunch break, Mr. Barton." Devon asked and in his eyes, Jaimie could see the look of challenge.
"Of course. It is my lunch hour at this time." Jaimie replied again with no emotion in his voice yet, in side his body was fire.
"Very good. It is very good to meet you miss?...." Devon asked Emily.
"But you've not told me whom you are, sir." Emily said. Jaimie successfully managed to stifle a grin.
"I am Devon Frampton. I have owned the Eight Bells Pub for four years now. I inherited it from my father. It has been in the Frampton family for ages. I hope you'll enjoy your meal. I also invite you to stop by my offices before you leave. I'd like to get better acquainted. I do detect an American accent." Devon answered.
"Yes, I"ve recently moved here. I am enjoying England, for the most part." Emily was quick to figure out this man. She sensed his prowess and felt he needed to be taken down a notch or two. And she did it with such a smooth tone that is sounded perfectly polite.
"Welcome to Great Britain and if you need someone to show you around, please it would be my pleasure. I will make arrangements for a limousine." Devon offered.
"That's very kind of you, Mr. Frampton but, soon I'll be gainfully employed and then it will be difficult for me to take leisurely limousine rides. But, I thank you for you kind offer." Emily gracefully declined Devon.
Devon Frampton was not used to beautiful woman rejecting his advances or his offers. Inside he felt a twinge of annoyance at this girl.
"Very well. The offer still stands. I do hope though you'll at least stop by before you leave today." Devon insisted.
"Thank you." Emily gave no indication of what she was going to do but, again used her grace and cleverness to neither flatter or offend.
"Enjoy your luncheon then." Devon replied and with that he gave one glance to Jaimie of warning and walked toward his office.

As Devon walked away, Charlie was revealed standing just a few paces behind him the whole time. Charlie gave Jaimie a pained looked and then looked towards where Devon was walking to be sure he was out of earshot.
"Cor, I am so sorry! I tried my best to keep him at bay. Emily, he saw you and made a beeline to your booth." Charlie explained.
"It's okay Charlie. Our friend here has an excellent sense about her. I also think you're smashing! Words flow from your mouth like smooth silk. Even though you mean a warning to back off, it sounds so damn polite and refined. Girl, you bloodywell blew me away!" Jaimie said, his eyes sparkling.
"Mr. Frampton just reeks of testosterone, that's all." Emily said and then after a few seconds gave a cheeky grin. Both Jaimie and Charlie looked at one another and both of them broke out in laughter.

I'll add more to "Convince Me To Stay" soon.
Looking forward to enjoying the play EQUUS very soon.
So proud of Daniel! Can't wait to see what he'll do next.
I think he'll do well in "Journey".
A little disapointed that HP HBP is getting pushed back from November 2008 to July 2009.
Least I'll see Dan perform live on Broadway soon. That will hopefully tie me over till then.
I will have to see if I can find a way to get the podcast of Daniel's interview in New York from the New York Times 8/19. Reading the accounts of the event from HarryP on GRA forum (formerly DRNC-17) was wonderful. HarryP's descriptions were great and I was glad she got the opportunity to go up to the microphone and personally ask Daniel a question. I like how she described how Daniel looks you in the eye when you speak to him. She did well. Got herself together before facing him and asked a good question. I would have loved to have been there to take it all in. An experience of a lifetime.

Charlie came quickly over to Jaimie in the kitchen when he returned.
"Blimey, I think Devon has spotted your friend there. I went out to go to the front and he was walking out of the office and stopped quick looking her way." Charlie exclaimed.
"I'll have to get over there then. Can you see about getting our lunch order out quickly then?" Jaimie asked.
"Right. I'll have Rob go over to greet the incoming customers then. Not many more will come in at this hour. Then I'll get cracking on it." Charlie said taking the paper from Jaimie's hand.
"Thanks mate. I owe you." Jaimie said and gave Charlie's shoulder a few quick pats, then took off in the direction of the booth where Emily sat now alone.

Emily had placed her buttered roll down on the plate near her and took a sip of her Diet Coke. She no sooner put the glass down on the table when Jaimie quickly slid in to the booth in the seat across from her.
"Oh, you can take your break now, eh?" Emily said with a sweet grin.
"Yes, looks find. Charlie is making our lunch so I thought I'd get back here." Jaimie said and then he quickly looked around and tried to look not so obvious.
"Everything seem fine then?" Emily noticing Jaimie's eyes darting around the room then back to her.
"Oh yes love, fine. Just double checking the clientelle. Just in case we suddenly get busy but, I doubt it. Most everyone is back at work or now our regulars are at the bar." Jaimie said and tried to look relaxed.

They carried on a conversation about their morning so far and then Charlie appeared with a tray filled with their lunch order.
"This looks lovely. I'm hungry now." Emily said.
"Thanks Charlie. Everything okay?" Jaimie said and after the words left his mouth, wish he'd not added the latter.
"Of course. Everthing is under control here. Everyone's mostly at the bar. The others are finishing their meals and then will go. Then we'll batten down the hatches for the after work crowd, eh? Now that's when it gets really dodgey. We manage well, eh Jaimie?" Charlie said.
Jaimie thought to himself "Good save, mate!"
"Yes. We manage with our lot. Musn't have the boss upset, eh?" Jaimie said.
"Oh noooo! That would not be good. Well, I'll leave you two now. Your food is getting cold. Enjoy." Charlie said and he started to walk away but, diverted himself to another isle away from the kitchen.

Emily shook off the strange feeling she had. Somehow, she knew this stranger watched her walking away. She dared not turn to look at him. She decided that she'd not meet him again and she noted that most English people she met were very friendly. She got herself ready as she approached the entrance of the employement agency.

After waiting for three quarters of an hour, then filling out papers only to find herself in a long queue. She found more papers had to be filled out and then she met with a lady who interviewed her. She then found herself seated before this woman's desk as she exscused herself after getting a phone call. Emily wondered how all of this would work for her. So many people were in the queue for a job besides herself.
When the woman returned, she had in her hand several papers. Emily contained a sigh at the thought of having to fill out even more paperwork but, found these were leads for jobs.

Emily then thanked the woman for her time and said she'd be getting right to the places after lunch today. She stood up when the woman behind the desk did, they shook hands and the woman kindly welcomed her to the UK. Emily left feeling pretty good so far.
She did not want to look at any of the papers at the moment and was glad she had brought a larger purse so she was able to slip all the papers in it neatly.

Emily decided the first thing she should do is go straight to the Eight Bells Pub and find Jaimie Barton. She was so excited to see her friend and perhaps he may be able to join her for lunch as it was getting past noontime. She figured by the time she walked across the street again and back again to the pub, there could be a chance that Jaimie could take his lunch break with her. She wanted to thank him for his encouragement and guidence. She also wanted to continue to be his friend. She found him to be so refereshing, open and friendly.

When Emily reached the doors of the pub, she could hear the bustling of patrons and servers going around the isles of all the tables and booths. As soon as she opened the doorway, she was greeted by another young server who was taking his turn as greeter.
"Welcome to the Eight Bells Pub, miss. Any seating preference?" he asked politely.
"Um, if it is no trouble, may I be seated in a booth and in a station that Jaimie Barton works?" Emily asked.
"Why, you must be Emily!" the server said with a genuine pleased grin. "Pardon me miss, I only got a mere glance at you from the kitchen. I am sorry if I seem a bit forward. I'm Jaimie's friend and co-worker, of course." and then he laughed at himself, blushing a little as he realized Emily would know he was Jaimie's co-worker. Charlie Webster was smitten with Emily's beautiful brown eyes, long brown hair and again, she was dressed looking important.
"Yes, I am Emily. Emily Burrows. Pleased to meet you... um...?" Emily stopped as she did not recall any name Jaimie had mentioned.
"Sorry! I'm Charlie. Charlie Webster." and he offered his right hand for Emily to shake.
Emily took Charlie's hand and shook it. She noted he had a firm handshake. He looked her right in the eyes. "Pleased to meet a friend of Jaimie's." Emily said.
"Right friendly place, this is. Greeting people using you first and sir names." said a patron who came in the entrance way just before Charlie and Emily recognized one another. Emily turned and grinned shly to the fellow patron, Charlie laughed.
"You're certainly right there, sir! Welcome to Eight Bells Pub. I'll seat you as well as miss here. Any seating preference, sir?" asked Charlie of the new patron.
"Oh Charlie, I'll find my way to a bar stool if you don't mind. You take care of your pretty friend there. Have a lovely day miss." and the older gentleman winked at Emily as he then politely made his way to the bar.

Charlie then motioned for Emily to follow him. As they entered the dining area, the banter got louder. It seemed busy but, most patrons were at the bar. Clinking glasses, talk of this or that mixed with occaisional laughter filled the air giving the place an even more festive mood. It made Emily feel very happy as she also noted with a lot of the lunch crowd gone back to work, there could be a chance Jaimie could join her for a lunch.
"I'll fetch Jaimie. Enjoy your lunch, miss Emily!" said Charlie as he then took off toward the kitchen.

Emily settled herself in the booth's seat, setting her purse down beside her and sitting up a little. She took a deep breath and anticipated seeing her new friend. She did not have to wait long. Both Jaimie and Charlie showed up at her booth with grins ear to ear.
"Hello! Emily you've come back to lunch. How's it been going this week?" Jaimie asked. Charlie standing a little behind him with an anticipating grin on his face.
"It's been a lovely week so far. I did as you suggested and went to the employment offices. I wanted to share the leads they've offered me over lunch, if you can." Emily hoped he could.
"That's lovely! Just let me check around and see if I am able to take my break now. Charlie, you still up front?" asked Jaimie.
"Yes, slowed down a bit. Most everyone's at the bar now today. But, have a look. The boss could come in today and we don't want to get his boxers in a twist, do we?" Charlie said and grinned.
"Blimey, no." Jaimie agreed then turned to Emily.
"Let me fetch your drink order and get you a menu. You're in my station so the very least I can hang about the table and make out you're trying to give me your order, eh?" Jaimie said and winked at Emily. Emily broke in to a grin.
"Okay. I'd like a Diet Coke, please." Emily said.
"Not a pint of bitters today?" Charlie suggested.
"No, I won't drink today. I might just go off after lunch to one of these leads for a job, you see. Don't think the aroma of beer on my breath would go over too well, you think?" Emily said and then they all three laughed.
"Well, as you see, a lot of us don't let that stand in our way." Jaimie then turned his head to look at the bar. It was filled with patrons in both suit and tie and jeans and tee shirts.
Emily grinned after looking in the same direcetion as Jaimie and Charlie. They all looked back to one another with a grin of agreement.
"Still, I'll pass. Diet Coke please. This time, could you add a wedge of lemon for me?" asked Emily and she grinned up at him, her brown eyes caught the light and sparkled.
"For you lovely miss, anything!" Jaimie said and then he and Charlie went their seperate ways.

Jaimie returned with a tray with a drink balanced on it and a menu. Also, he had included a basket of fresh, warm rolls and sweet cream butter on a saucer with a butter knife for Emily to enjoy.
"These were baked fresh this morning, love. They are my favorite. Crusty yet fluffy on the inside." Jaimie said proudly as he set down the drink first then the bread plate next before her.
"How thoughtful. And yes, these rolls do smell heavenly." Emily said and felt her hunger.
"Seems I can nip off now and take a lunch break with you, dear. Now, what shall it be?" Jaimie said with a smile.
Jaimie took her order and told her he'd have the very same. He would return with their meal and told her he wanted to hear every detail of her day and weekend so far. Before she could answer, he swiftly went off to the kitchen.
"Well, not every detail, Jaimie." Emily thought to herself as she buttered her first steaming roll. As she bit in to the roll, the steam reminded her of Daniel's kiss. She felt her heart flutter just for a moment. Then the flavor of the food she realized and she agreed with Jaimie, these rolls were the best she had experienced in a long while. She then sat back in her seat to relax and reflect as she waited.
